About

We are a recently thirty-ish couple plus three children which makes five of us.  We used to live in Alabama, which is beautiful, but now we live in Ireland, which is (it has to be said) even more beautiful.  Leaving behind careers in law and speech pathology, we sold what we couldn’t pack into a container, which includes family and friends, and are now living and working in Ireland, doing something entirely different.  Sometimes God uses the strangest people to do things he has in mind, but we think he’s got a great sense of humor.

Some people have called us crazy, and we might be inclined to agree with you.  But we get dressed, eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, and put in a day’s work, most of the time.  So if we are crazy, it’s in a moderately tame sense.  You can read the blog and decide for yourself.

Scott and Tara, we are looking forward to praying with you and for you through this journey. Love you both! (and the munchkins too!) Earlene and Larry

  2. We went on a similar adventure once, to Scotland for three years. Changed our life – I am sure this will change yours!

I am so proud of you. My daughter Angie went to Ireland twice on mission trips and loved it. I am a little jealous, but I am finishing up my BS in Business Management. I just heard about you site today. I did not realize you had left yet. Bless you, and my prayers are with you.

    Scott and Tara,
I never was able to say bye to you and your family before you left, so I want to take this time to ask that you please put me on your newsletter list.
I read your blog, and you are a very entertaining writer. I really enjoyed reading it.
One commit I have, is that because Pastor Steve is such a blessed teacher and pastor, your family is on the mission field. If he weren’t so dedicated to missions, none of us would have the heart for missions that we have.
I have to say that my first mission trip this summer has really changed me in many ways. One thing for sure; we americans are so blessed and have way too much. Seeing those in Guatemala with so little makes me a little embarrased at all that I have.
I really admire your faith and trust in the Lord to take this giant step with your children, and Dave and I both will keep your family on our hearts and in our prayers.
Here is a little verse for courage in this great commission that the Lord has chosen for you and your family.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
May the Lord bless you and keep you and make His light to shine upon you… Love, Dave and Nancy Warth

  6. Tara & Scott,
We were just thinking of you and wanted to say hi, we’re praying for you and hoping to hear you are doing well. Our last two weeks at CIT were definitely not the same without you and we missed your humor and spontaneous social gatherings in the courtyard between Apt.9 & 10.
Let us know how things are going and how we can pray. I think you are in touch with Laura but I want to hang out with the cool kids too. Thanks
ps. you don’t have to post this I just wanted to say hi and be in touch.

    Tara & Scott,
Just wanted to let you know that we prayed for you all and your families during our ABF yesterday. While you are far away, you are always close in prayer. We love the opportunity to stay current with what you are doing and your prayer needs!

    Scott, Tara, and Munchkins;

I just learned that yall are in Ireland already. I am so happy for you all. I know that this is truely where your hearts have been drawn for a long time now. Please know that we are praying for you ALL and that you are forever entwined in our hearts. Please add me to your news letter list. We will continue to keep The “Slate 5″ in our thoughts and prayers.

  10. Hi Tara and Scott,
My parents (Mike and Terry Tubbs) attended church with you, and I’ve seen you there in the past, esp. since Scott sang and Dad pointed ya’ll out to me. (“They’re the ones going to Ireland.”) I’ve been lurking on your blog for a while, and had to eventually say hi, and how fascinated I am with this life you’re living. My husband and I are thirtyish as well, and have approximately the same number of kids, and have a longing to go to Ireland that defies explanation. We also love God and serving Him, so who knows if those things are all to be intertwined someday…..Anyway, I will be keeping up with you and wanted to finally introduce myself. We’re praying for you!

    Scott,

You may not remember me from Samford but I do remember you. Although we never formally bonded (my immaturity prevented that) however I do remember your faithfulness to God.

It is refreshing to read you praying with your daughters and speaking truth. Good luck with your ministry. May God continue to bless you and provide for you his “best.”

    Tara,
Crazy me, I forgot to give you their names…Mike and Allie Murphy.

  14. funny enough, I do know you and I know about these folks coming, one of my friends in the area sent me a text about them. Was thinking of meeting them!

  15. Sherri Johnson

    Tara,
I wish I could say that I never miss a word you write… but that would be dishonest. However, I CAN truthfully say that I thoroughly enjoy reading every word you write. You’re a deep thinker; I like that. I miss you, my friend! And I understand the certain “disconnect” that we feel wherever we may be. It’s a true “homesickness.” Looking forward to our REAL home; aren’t you? Blessings!
